The Marvin - 4210 Washington Avenue

Behind the name

Marvin Gerber was a lighthouse keeper for the West Point Light Station. While the station was slated for automation in 1970, Marvin wanted to ensure it could celebrate its centennial anniversary as a manned lighthouse (which would happen in 1981. On November 15, 1981 he scaled the lighthouse and celebrated by dousing it with champagne. The West Point Lighthouse was automated in 1985, the last in the state to be converted.
