In 1853 Dr. Henry A Smith staked a land claim of 160 acres at the south end of Magnolia Bluff. He was considered to be somewhat of a hero, a compassionate Seattle pioneer and leader who was known to love "fellow settlers and native Indians equally." Dr. Henry Smith strove to make Seattle a better place.
